"The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves"

I can always picture the image and hear that screen door slam in Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road”. I even hear the creaking of the hinges as the slight breeze whispers the longing in the air. The screen door is what starts the journey of the song. I find that the nostalgia of a vintage style screen door evokes a quieter time. When one might leave the front door open to enjoy the crickets chirping, or the rain softly falling and see the filtered view through the screen. Sounds pretty good to me so I decided to make one for our house. With my Dad by my side, we designed and created a vintage style screen door with hand carved mortice and tenon joints, mitered corner screen framing, and of course, our own Iron Artisan’s Daughter wrought iron handles. If we ever move, it’s going with us and I’ll adjust it to fit our new home. Now, every time my screen door slams (ever so slightly), I’m singing “Thunder Road”.
