The Hidden Old Growth Bay...

Last time, I left before Evan could share a prized piece of old growth bay that he somehow knew I would appreciate.  This time, I made it a point to seek it out.  Hidden behind tall planks of varying lengths, hues and thicknesses, this orphan, looking rather beat up and dusty, made me smile.  It was HEAVY but Dad and I secured it to the truck and brought it back to the shop.  Ingrained with deep hewing grooves, it took a lot of sanding to reveal the beauty underneath but layer by layer, this piece came to life.  I think it is my favorite part of working with wood...waiting and watching as the grain reveals the beauty inside.
